Rosa

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 5 years

Slim, quick, and always alert. Rosa doesn’t miss a single detail—and certainly not a moving bird. For the right person, she’s a dream dog: full of energy, incredibly intelligent, and with a nose that’s always on high alert. Rosa is a 6.5-year-old Bosnian lady (10 kg) bursting with energy. She’s social, smart, and loves people—but she’s also a true hunter. That hunting instinct has gotten her into trouble in the past. Cats, birds, anything that moves... Rosa immediately “switches on.” That’s part of her breed’s nature, but it does require clear guidance. A hunting dog through and through. Rosa is intensely focused on cats and everything with wings. She’s even escaped a few times to chase after her prey. This means: She can’t run loose in open areas; she must stay securely leashed—even some fences aren’t a guarantee for her. She’s smart, creative, and surprisingly athletic. Letting go is possible only in completely safe, well-secured environments—always with 100% certainty. She absolutely loves training. We’re working with Rosa on impulse control: taking a quick look, then refocusing her attention back on her handler. It’s challenging for her—sometimes she still chooses the hunt over a reward. But she wants to learn, and you can see it. Rosa participates in the Dutch Cell Dogs program, where she shows just how clever and eager to learn she is. She picks things up quickly, but sometimes she can get a bit nervous or overly excited when things get exciting. What truly makes her happy? Exercise Digging Running alongside a bicycle Running together Getting all that energy out—that’s when she really comes alive. It’s literally her outlet. At home with Rosa, Rosa loves people. She wants to be near everyone and greets you enthusiastically (sometimes maybe a little too enthusiastically). She jumps for joy—this will need some work, especially around children. She can live happily with another dog and finds dogs very sociable. Being alone is something she’s used to (up to about five hours), but this will need to be rebuilt gradually in her new home. Food? No problem. She’s not picky at all. She loves bones, but when she’s gnawing on them, she’d rather be left alone. What does Rosa look for? Rosa is looking for: An active household Someone who enjoys training Lots of exercise Clear boundaries Understanding of her hunting instinct She can’t run loose in open areas—and her new owner really needs to accept that. Children are welcome, but supervision is needed because of her enthusiasm. Why she’s a long-term resident? Rosa isn’t a quiet couch potato. She’s a working dog in a small package. She asks for... time to settle in, movement—but whoever works with her gets back a loyal, social, and incredibly fun dog. Would you like to help Rosa while she waits for a new home? About Rosa

What life with Rosa looks like

Rosa is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Dierenzorg Zaanstreek in AR Zaandam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rosa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rosa?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenzorg Zaanstreek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rosa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rosa if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenzorg Zaanstreek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rosa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rosa isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenzorg Zaanstreek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rosa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
