Roy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

A lovable, active, and social male Podenco mix, Roy, was born in Spain around February 2020. He stands about 55 cm tall and is currently living in a refuge where he has adapted well to his new life. Initially, Roy was fearful but has since regained his trust in humans. He is a wonderful dog who is always friendly towards people and his own kind, avoiding conflicts. Roy is eagerly waiting for a loving, suitable home and a cozy warm dog bed to live in comfort and happiness. He is not immediately receptive to touch; he needs time. Once he knows someone and has gained trust, he enjoys being touched and cherished by his humans. Roy is making good progress in the refuge, supported by the other dogs and humans. He now needs someone who respects his pace and loves him as he deserves. A confident first dog would be helpful and supportive. The lovable and active dog is now seeking his final happiness with dedicated people who have plenty of time for him, challenge and encourage him, teach him the basics of dog behavior with patience and calmness, ideally combined with regular visits to dog school, and integrate him actively into their daily lives, where Roy finally experiences the affection, love, and care he has not had before. Roy is compatible with dogs of both sexes. A socially compatible, confident, and preferably similarly aged and sized dog, to whom he can relate, would be supportive and advantageous. A loving home is sought for Roy with active people who have plenty of time for him, enjoy activities with him, and discover the world together, as he has probably not experienced much before and is not a couch potato. A quiet rural home and environment would be ideal for him. Cats and/or small animals should not be present in his future home. Roy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and tested for Mediterranean diseases. He is located in a refuge in Andalusia, Spain. The adoption fee for Roy is 580 euros. About Roy

What life with Roy looks like

Roy is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
