Ruby

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel · Female · Adult · 5 years

I can live with older dog-savvy children who understand I need time to settle in. I need a doggy friend in my new home. I haven’t met cats so I’m unsure. I'd like a secure garden to potter around in. I haven't tried walks yet, a secure garden will be fine for now. Please be patient with me, I haven’t lived in a home before I've started my vaccinations and will be spayed before adoption. 20-10-26 Ruby is a happy girl with a waggy tail, who has come into our care from a breeder. She is a lovely, easy-going girl who will approach us for fuss and seems fairly confident in her kennel. Ruby is happy being handled and is just brave enough to come over to say hello and give our hands little kisses. She is easy to handle and loves snuggling up in bed with her kennel friends. Although Ruby shows us a confident side when she is with her friends, her confidence starts to fade when she is taken away from them. For this reason, Ruby will need another kind dog in her new home to provide support and companionship and help her feel safe as she settles in and finds her paws. As Ruby has never lived in a home before, she will need to learn all about house training, lead training and the other basics of home life. Her new family will need to give her time and patience as she adjusts to her new surroundings and learns about all the lovely things that come with living in a home. Ruby could share her home with older, dog-savvy children aged 9 years and over, who can understand that she will need a gentle, quiet introduction to her new surroundings, as well as her own space to settle in. Ruby is a sweet, affectionate girl who is already showing us that she wants to make friends. We hope that with the reassurance of a canine companion and a loving family, she will continue to grow in confidence and enjoy all the comfort, fuss and cuddles that a home of her own can offer. Ruby has been given the Gift of Life by Gemma Jones Through the generosity of a Gift of Life sponsor, this dog was able to leave behind an uncertain future in Ireland and find safety and care at Many Tears. Every sponsorship helps us rescue and save more dogs in desperate need. If you would like to become part of a rescue story, please consider donating to our Gift of Life fund. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Ruby

What life with Ruby looks like

Ruby is an adult cavalier king charles spaniel dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ruby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ruby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ruby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ruby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ruby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ruby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ruby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
