Rudi Category: Dogs Last updated: December 30, 2025 Gender: male born: 2024 Breed: Labrador-Husky Mix Size: approx. 60 cm neutered: no sought: new home / sponsor Illnesses: none known Video November 2025 Video December 2025 Rudi was given to us because he bit the toddler in the family. Help was sought from a trainer, but unfortunately, the child was so afraid of Rudi that it made no sense. Thus, the way to us was the right step. At first, Rudi was distressed and growled at us. But after a short time, he decided to adapt to the new situation. Now he also greets new people with interest and openness. However, he quickly tests how far he can go and then becomes a bit disrespectful. The young male dog needs people who have a plan for dogs and handle him with security and certainty. He knows basic commands, but he often ignores them. We do not want children in his new home. So far, there have only been dog encounters through the fence. Rudi remains interested and calm. Since it is very difficult to rehome a dog that has bitten, we are looking for sponsors for Rudi who can financially support us. We still hope that somewhere out there, there are the right people. We continue to get to know Rudi and work with him. He will also be trained to wear a muzzle. Update Nov. 2025: Rudi still needs his muzzle. He is one year old and a Labrador/Husky mix. He is open and greets people very friendly, whether he knows them or not. He often asks for cuddles. The young male dog has already learned a lot from us and works attentively in training. - On the leash: Works well. - Sit, down, stay: He always tries. - Give a paw: Yes, he can. Rudi is an energetic and clever dog. He needs exercise and mental stimulation.

About Rudi

What life with Rudi looks like

Rudi is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Altentreptow in Altentreptow.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rudi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rudi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Altentreptow handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rudi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rudi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Altentreptow will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rudi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rudi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Altentreptow early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rudi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
