Salvo

Male · Adult · 9 years

This friendly tomcat lived in a holiday resort in northern Sardinia, and it was quite obvious that he wasn't doing well: He had mange, likely mouth problems, and crusts on his almost hairless ears. It was clear that he didn't have a family to care for him and had to survive on his own, mostly struggling. But then came the day when everything changed: New people moved in, and he quickly sensed that they had a big heart for cats. Not only did he get lots of cuddles, which he enjoyed very much, but there was also good food. So he stayed and quickly stole the hearts of these kind people. These loving people decided very quickly that they didn't want to leave the tomcat without care. They sought help, and they found it with us. The fact that we didn't have a free foster place nearby was no obstacle; instead, they made their way across the island to bring the tomcat to safety. We don't often see such dedication, as most people's love for animals isn't strong enough to sacrifice a vacation day. For this, we would like to thank the kind people once again at this point. Salvo, as he is now called at the request of his rescuers, was immediately introduced to our vet to receive appropriate medical care. However, the neutering was postponed because the tomcat wasn't in good enough physical condition to undergo surgery. We wanted to take no risks. Salvo needed to be properly nourished and regain his strength first. Under the loving care of our long-time foster mom, Salvo gradually recovered. Eventually, he was ready to be neutered. However, the crusts on his ears have worsened, and it needs to be determined whether this is a tumor-related issue, which many white-eared cats suffer from due to intense sun exposure. If so, he will need surgery to prevent further spread. To ensure he still gets some fresh air and can roll in the grass, the foster mom occasionally takes him to the small garden, but for safety reasons, he is on a leash, which he enjoys. In his foster home, Salvo feels very comfortable, but the stay there should only be a stopover. As soon as possible, we want to bring Salvo to Germany so he can find his forever home in a loving family environment. October 4, 2025 Salvo has arrived in his German foster home and is now waiting here for nice people who want to adopt him. Would you like to give the sweet, cuddly Salvo his dream home? We look forward to your message or call.

About Salvo

What life with Salvo looks like

Salvo is a large adult cat waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Salvo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Salvo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Salvo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Salvo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Salvo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Salvo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Salvo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
