Heartbreaker Schlumpi: A big love with small "renovations" is looking for a home Hello, I am Schlumpi! If you are looking for a tomcat who would rather snuggle than fight, is people-oriented, and would prefer to spend the whole day in your company, then I am your candidate. My name is Programm: I am a laid-back type who enjoys peace. Since my engine is not running quite as smoothly as it used to, I am looking for people with a heart and a sense of responsibility who will take me as I am. What you should know about my health: Two chronic conditions have been diagnosed in me, both of which are treatable but require attention: Thyrotoxicosis: My metabolism runs too fast without help. To prevent my body from constantly running at high speed, I need to take a medication twice a day. This is important so that my heart is also relieved. Heart disease (HCM & Mitral insufficiency): My heart muscle is thickened, causing blood to pool in the left atrium and a heart valve to no longer close properly. To prevent me from having shortness of breath or fluid accumulating in the lungs, I need to take three medications twice a day. This means for you in everyday life: I am no "emergency," but a faithful companion who simply needs a bit more care. I will give you an endless amount of purring, affection, and the gratitude of a cat who knows it has arrived. Would you like to become Schlumpi's "Heart Caregiver"? The animal shelter team will advise you in detail about their medications and the condition. Send us an email with the fully completed interested party application form if you are interested in one of our animals, or contact us via our contact form with any questions. Please provide a callback number. Please come only with an appointment! Please leave this field empty. Please leave this field empty. About Schlumpi

What life with Schlumpi looks like

Schlumpi is a large senior european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Oelzschau in Oelzschau.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Schlumpi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Schlumpi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Oelzschau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Schlumpi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Schlumpi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Oelzschau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Schlumpi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Schlumpi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Oelzschau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Schlumpi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
