This lovely 5-year-old fellow ended up in our shelter in Utrecht because he was too alert and protective at home, which didn’t fit well with his current situation. Originally from Greece, Snoop came to the Netherlands as a young puppy. His mountain-dog heritage is still clearly visible in his behavior and character: he’s incredibly loyal to his owner and will protect his territory with everything he’s got. A busy residential neighborhood or a home with frequent visitors is therefore not the right environment for him. Once he’s away from his own territory, however, he becomes much more approachable and warms up quickly to new people. Once he knows you well and has had time to get to know you, you’ll have a truly loyal and affectionate friend by your side. Winning his heart is worth its weight in gold—then he really becomes a big cuddlebug! He loves going for walks immensely. He walks calmly alongside you and listens very well. Running outdoors is fantastic for him, and having fun romping around in the garden is definitely his thing. A garden is therefore an absolute must for Snoop—he thoroughly enjoys life outdoors. Rolling around in the grass, playing with his favorite rope toy, or playing tug-of-war with his owner—it makes him absolutely overjoyed. He also gets along well with most other dogs and plays enthusiastically with them. He’s not particularly fond of a huge rambunctious companion, but he’d really appreciate a reasonably quiet fellow dog with whom he could occasionally take a quick run. Due to his vigilant nature, we don’t place Snoop with young children. He has a strong protective instinct and likes to guard his home and his people. This isn’t suitable for a young family with potential playmates coming over, etc. Snoop has a preference for female owners, but after a calm adjustment period, he can also be placed perfectly well with a man. It’s especially important to take his vigilance into account and ensure that he can feel safe in the environment where he ends up. You don’t just choose a dog on a whim—we have a strict selection process for our shelter dogs. During the first introduction, a dog is not placed immediately. You won’t have access to the kennels because that would stress our dogs—and the kennels are precisely their resting places. Furthermore, we’d like to meet the entire family, including any dogs already living in the household. At the shelter, you’ll have plenty of time to get acquainted, go for walks, and ask questions of the host family. After a positive initial meeting, a second appointment follows, and further arrangements will be made.

Deze knappe kerel van 5 jaar oud kwam in de opvang in Utrecht terecht omdat hij te waaks was in huis en dit niet paste in de situatie waar hij zat. Van origine komt Snoop uit Griekenland, als jonge pup is hij naar Nederland gekomen. De berghond-roots zijn nog wel duidelijk in zijn gedrag en karakter te herkennen: hij is enorm trouw aan zijn baas, en beschermt zijn territorium met alles wat hij in zich heeft. Een huis met regelmatig visite is dan ook niet aan hem besteed, of hij zal apart moeten worden gezet. Is hij eenmaal van zijn eigen terrein af, dan is hij veel toegankelijker en warmt hij vrij snel op bij nieuwe mensen. Kent hij je eenmaal goed en heeft hij de tijd gehad je te leren kennen, dan heb je er een hele loyale en aanhankelijke vriend bij. Zijn hart winnen is goud waard, hij is dan een echte knuffelkont! Wandelen doet hij ontzettend graag. Hij loopt rustig mee en luistert goed. Rennen in de buitenlucht vindt hij fantastisch, en lekker ravotten in de tuin is ook echt zijn ding. Een tuin is voor Snoop dan ook een echte must – hij geniet met volle teugen van het buitenleven. Rollen in het gras, spelen met zijn favoriete touwspeeltje of samen touwtrekken met zijn baasje: het maakt hem dolgelukkig. Ook kan hij met de meeste andere honden goed overweg en speelt hij enthousiast samen. Hij is niet echt gediend van een enorme druktemaker, maar een redelijk rustige soortgenoot om af en toe een sprintje mee te trekken kan hij erg waarderen. Vanwege zijn waakse aard plaatsen we Snoop niet bij jonge kinderen. Hij heeft een sterk beschermend instinct en bewaakt graag zijn huis en zijn mensen. Dit is niet passend in een jong gezin met eventuele vriendjes die over de vloer komen e.d. Met name is het belangrijk dat er rekening wordt gehouden met zijn waaksheid en dat dit veilig kan doen in de omgeving waar hij terecht komt. Ben jij op zoek naar een trouwe kameraad met karakter, die van beweging, gezelligheid en heel veel knuffelen houdt? Dan zou Snoop zomaar jouw perfecte match kunnen zijn! Wil je kennismaken met Snoop? Een hond kies je niet zomaar, wij hebben dan ook een strenge selectie voor onze asielhonden. Tijdens een eerste kennismaking wordt een hond niet geplaatst. Je hebt geen toegang tot de hondenkennels omdat dit stressvol is voor onze honden, en de kennels juist hun rustplek zijn. Verder willen wij kennismaken met het hele gezin, ook eventuele honden die al in het gezin zijn. Je kunt op het asiel alle tijd nemen om kennis te maken, te gaan wandelen en vragen te stellen aan het gastgezin. Na een positieve eerste kennismaking volgt een tweede afspraak en worden verdere afspraken gemaakt.
