Socks

Domestic Shorthair · Female · Senior · 11 years

Socks is a quiet and gentle older lady who would love a new home to call her own. We don't know much about Sock's past, but we do know that she isn't enjoying being in the cattery environment and is looking forward to a cozy bed and some more space to call her own. Socks is often found resting in her bed during the day and often enjoys a gentle head rub and a tasty treat from her carers as they pass by. We probably aren't seeing the true Socks in this environment as she's quite withdrawn, but from what we have seen of her so far she has a very gentle and sometimes timid nature. She would love an understanding and calm forever home who are happy to open their hearts to a kind natured older cat who will benefit from a bit of gentle TLC. Staff are here to ensure the animals find homes which suit their needs. Most animals in our care have not had the best start in life and may require special care or training. We will assess your experience and assist you in finding the right pet for your home. Although we want to start their new life with you as quickly as possible, our re-homing process can take a few weeks from start to finish. The process is as follows:

About Socks

What life with Socks looks like

Socks is a small senior domestic shorthair cat waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Socks, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Socks?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Socks on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Socks if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Socks already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Socks isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Socks and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
