Tere &#8211

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Where our wonderful two-and-a-half-year-old (as of March 2025) Galgo Tere came from, we do not know. But it is likely that she was sorted out by a hunter and had to survive alone for some time. For many dogs, life on the street can be significantly better than what they experienced before the merciless triage. Abused as a bait dog, kept in a dark shed on a short chain, beaten, kicked, and then abandoned – this is the life story of many Galgos that fill the animal shelters every spring. Many of our long-legged friends arrive at the animal shelter timidly, but we are always surprised by how quickly most of these sprinting wonders are given to people and ready to start a new life – with flapping ears and at racing-typical speed, where one can only see the condensation line on the horizon. Tere, too, is now a happy and very affectionate girl who discovers the small facility "El buen amigo" and likes to form friendships. Sometimes she has a bit of trouble getting along with other dogs at first, but she clearly communicates what she wants and what she doesn’t, shows no aggression, and when given the freedom to decide, she ultimately joins in the games of her fellow animals. Nevertheless, it would probably be nicer for Tere to be a solo princess in her new home, where a quiet second dog who doesn’t demand anything of her would certainly be no problem at all. With her human friends, Tere is always ready for any misadventure. She loves to play and to run, and after, she often looks at you with her legs stretched out, asking for cuddles. Tere is therefore a great companion for long shared walks, she also shows great talent as a warm blanket, a soul comforter, and a companion for cozy movie nights. If you love galgos, enjoy being outdoors, consider your home a well-heated haven (our long-distance runners are born frostbites!), understand the art of cuddling and loving, just as much as playing with balls, then please get in touch with us soon. Tere and her friends are waiting for a message from people like you and your ticket to great happiness!. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

DE·Show original

About Tere &#8211

What life with Tere &#8211 looks like

Tere &#8211 is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Tere &#8211, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Tere &#8211?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Tere &#8211 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Tere &#8211 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Tere &#8211 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Tere &#8211 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Tere &#8211 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
