Adopt Yummi

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Yummi lived in one of the most meliorative places in Gdańsk, but just beyond the tracks was a completely different world – and most importantly, caregivers who were concerned about her fate. Photos from the courtyard come from those times. One day, she arrived at the feeding spot with a powerful, already multi-day-old wound on her leg. After spending over a week in the hospital, she had to return to the courtyard, although she still limped – completely wild cats do not adapt forcibly if it can be avoided. After some time, she returned beaten up. Another capture, another treatment – almost all her teeth had to be removed, and it turned out that she is FIV+. There was too much of this for her to handle in the courtyard, especially in such an unfriendly place. In the shelter, she simply didn’t adapt. All attempts at acclimatization only brought more stress. (On one of the photos, you can see the technique for acclimatizing wild cats using a special stick to touch them. To street cats, human hands are associated solely with danger). In the end, Yummi ended up with one of our volunteers as a resident. She is still not thrilled about living under the same roof as a human, but she is slowly coming to the realization that it might not be the worst fate. She decided to give people a chance.

About Yummi

What life with Yummi looks like

Yummi is a small adult mixed breed cat waiting at Trzymaj Się Kocie in Poland.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Yummi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Yummi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Trzymaj Się Kocie handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Yummi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Yummi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Trzymaj Się Kocie will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Yummi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Yummi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Trzymaj Się Kocie early rather than rehoming privately; they know Yummi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
