Zoe

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Zoe, female dog born in 2023. Zoe is a young, small-sized female dog weighing about 6 kg. She is a dog of the pinscher type - and fully displays the characteristics of this breed: alert, brave, very lively, bold, and independent. This is a female dog who has her own opinion and knows how to express it, so she will best find herself with a caregiver who is aware and consistent. She arrived at the animal shelter underweight and in a very difficult emotional state. Initially, she was strongly withdrawn and reacted with aggression to contact with humans, and the only place where she felt safe was the kennel, which she did not want to leave for a long time. Thanks to patient and systematic work by the staff of Zoe has undergone a huge transformation. Today Zoe not only accepts humans - she really likes her caregivers. She willingly approaches them, allows herself to be petted, easily allows herself to be picked up and clearly feels comfortable in their presence. This is a major success and shows how much potential she has for further work and opening up to the world. With strangers, she remains mistrustful and needs time to accept new people. In a new home, it will be key to calmly introduce her to new situations and continue to build a sense of security. Zoe does not tolerate most dogs, although there are exceptions - the best example is Zazu, with whom she came to the animal shelter and with whom she has a very strong, positive relationship. The dogs get along well and support each other, so we strongly prefer a joint adoption. The presence of Zazu gives Zoe greater confidence and stability. The relationship of Zoe with cats is unknown. In terms of feeding, she can be picky, which may require patience and adaptation of the diet to her preferences. The female dog is energetic and alert - on the yard she likes to watch the surroundings and react to passersby, often barking at them. This behavior results both from her temperament and the need to control the environment, so it will be worth working on this in a new home. Zoe walks on a leash and finds her way well in this form of walking. However, she still requires further training and guidance in order to function comfortably outside her familiar environment. This is a demanding dog, but at the same time making real progress and ready for further development. We are looking for a calm, stable home for her that will provide her with consistency, patience, and understanding. In the right hands, Zoe has a chance to become a loyal and exceptional companion. In a pair with Zazu, they form a cohesive team - and it is together that they have the greatest chance for a safe, peaceful future. Zoe is vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed.

Zoe, suczka urodzona w 2023 roku. Wobec obcych nadal pozostaje nieufna i potrzebuje czasu, by zaakceptować nowe osoby.

About Zoe

What life with Zoe looks like

Zoe is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zoe, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zoe?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zoe on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zoe if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zoe already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zoe isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zoe and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
