adoption requirements adoption process Request this pet now! adoption requirements adoption process Request this dog now! Zulu is a true fighter. He had to live as a chained dog for a long time until he finally found the strength to free himself. With the heavy chain still around his neck, he was found and brought to safety by animal-loving people. Now he waits at the shelter to finally be noticed and get his second chance. The beautiful male dog is about 2.5 to 3 years old, measures approximately 70 cm at the shoulder, and weighs around 50 kg. Just as big as Zulu is, so big is his heart. He loves being close to people, enjoys attention wholeheartedly, and would love nothing more than to cuddle all day. With his friendly face, warm brown eyes, and open nature, he instantly enchants everyone. Zulu should not be rehomed with another male dog. The test with female dogs is still pending. Visually and character-wise, Zulu strongly resembles a Rottweiler mix. Rottweilers are intelligent, confident, and loyal dogs that form a close bond with their humans. They are known for being attentive, eager to learn, and protective, but they also need clear structures, a sovereign lead, and consistent, loving upbringing. When properly guided, they make very balanced, cuddly, and faithful companions. Therefore, we wish for Zulu to find a home experienced with dogs, where the people enjoy working with a large and strong dog and can provide him with security and orientation. A quiet environment with a house and ideally a fenced garden would be particularly nice for him, though it's not essential. Most importantly, his future family should offer him sufficient physical and mental stimulation as well as a close family connection. Although Zulu, at about 3 years old, has already outgrown his stormy adolescence, it shouldn't be forgotten that a new home initially means stress for any dog. New people, new routines, and a new environment take time. Therefore, Zulu is looking for people who will let him settle in patiently and approach him with calmness, understanding, and loving consistency. Attending positive reinforcement dog training classes can be a great support and simultaneously strengthen the bond between human and dog. As a Rottweiler mix, Zulu is subject to certain regulations in some federal states. In states like Bavaria or Brandenburg, the Rottweiler is listed on the breed list in category 2.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Zulu

What life with Zulu looks like

Zulu is a extra-large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Zulu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Zulu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Zulu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Zulu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Zulu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Zulu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Zulu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
