Harley

Mixed Breed · Female

Harley is a shy female dog, even more reserved than her former companion Queen, with whom she arrived at the animal shelter together. The two were found hungry and thirsty near Xàtiva. It took a lot of patience and effort to catch them and safely bring them to the animal shelter. While Queen quickly gained trust with people and was adopted, Harley found it much harder. The sudden separation from Queen initially unsettled her greatly, as she had oriented herself strongly around her friend. In the early days after Queen’s adoption, Harley withdrew even further. Now, she shows more trust towards regular visitors but remains overall cautious. Harley is curious and seeks the proximity of people, while maintaining a distance. Her caretaker Salva can currently only touch her a little, but compared to her early days at the animal shelter, progress is already visible. When entering the premises, she often wags her tail from a distance but does not approach directly. In relaxed moments, when she settles down, she allows being touched and enjoys it very much. With other dogs, Harley is playful and cheerful. She likes to run, chase birds, and move around a lot. Her pronounced prey drive is typical of her breed and should be considered in her future home. For Harley, we are looking for a quiet, sensitive home with a lot of patience and understanding. An independent only dog could help her gain security and build trust. She needs time to get used to new people and surroundings – but once she has built trust, she shows herself to be clingy and cuddly. Harley wants to please and will become a faithful companion for life with the right support.

DE·Show original

About Harley

What life with Harley looks like

Harley is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Harley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Harley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Harley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Harley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Harley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Harley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Harley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
