Dax

Border Collie Β· Male Β· Adult Β· 4 years

Meet Dax: A sweet, people-oriented friend with clear instructions Despite his difficult past on the streets and in the killing station, Dax has not lost his trust in humans. He is an incredibly sweet boy who loves attention: Loves people: Dax gets along very well with people and enjoys contact and company. Social with other dogs: He gets along well with other dogs and shares his living space well with his own kind. Important note (Food jealousy): Because Dax had to survive on the streets according to the law of the strongest, he has developed food jealousy. This is completely understandable given his past. With the right guidance, this can be handled well: it is simply a matter of giving him food quietly and separately (at a distance from any other dogs). Because of his past and to provide him with a stable, quiet environment, we do not place Dax with families with children.

About Dax

What life with Dax looks like

Dax is a large adult border collie dog waiting at Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue in Meppel (NL-wide).

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dax, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dax?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dax on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dax if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Dax already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dax isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting Lucky Dogs Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dax and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
