Denzel & Diego

Dachshund · Male

Denzel & Diego – Bolton DENZEL Male 9 years Smooth haired black and tan miniature (6kg) Neutered DIEGO Male 8 years Smooth haired red miniature (7kg) Neutered Adoption fee £450 Denzel and Diego are a bonded and loving pair. They are warm and affectionate boys who want nothing more than a calm, understanding home where they can feel secure and adored. Denzel is a sweet, affectionate lad who loves belly rubs, gentle fuss and being close to his humans. His favourite place is right by your feet. He enjoys his walks and a good run around, and has a playful side that comes out when he deconstructs his toys. Denzel can be anxious and is often on alert. He doesn’t like loud noises and will squeak when startled or frightened. Diego is equally loving and affectionate, happiest when curled up on a knee or burrowed under blankets. He isn’t overly interested in toys but loves a good game of tug of war with a blanket. Diego enjoys his walks, though he tends to bark at people and dogs, which then sets Denzel off too but with calm reassurance they both settle. Not much is known about the first six months of Diego’s life but since then he has been an anxious boy who can become overwhelmed if approached too quickly, often rolling over and urinating in fear. He is also wary of unfamiliar men, though he does learn to trust with time, patience and gentle affection. Both boys will need back‑to‑basics toilet training. They previously lived in a home where they had constant access to the garden, and since moving to a house where they must be let out, they have struggled and now have frequent accidents indoors and can soil in their crate occasionally or overnight. When left alone they become anxious and howl, so a home where someone is present most of the time is essential. Denzel and Diego are looking for a calm, quiet, adults only home with patient humans who can take things at their pace and help them build trust. They need a secure garden where they can potter, practice their toilet training and feel safe. They thrive on attention and reassurance, so a family who can offer plenty of affection and stability will be ideal. They must be the only dogs in the home, allowing them to be the centre of attention. About Denzel & Diego

What life with Denzel & Diego looks like

Denzel & Diego is an adult dachshund dog waiting at The Red Foundation in Pentlow Street.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Denzel & Diego, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Denzel & Diego?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. The Red Foundation handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Denzel & Diego on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Denzel & Diego if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — The Red Foundation will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Denzel & Diego already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Denzel & Diego isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with The Red Foundation early rather than rehoming privately; they know Denzel & Diego and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
