Adopt Gerad-2

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Country of origin: Hungary. Just recently, this beautiful, older four-legged friend came to the animal shelter on January 22, 2026, as a stray dog from the neighboring town of Helvécia. Unfortunately, he had no chip and was not reported missing. It's always surprising that there are people who don't care when their dog is gone. Regardless, we can't change his past, but his future is close to our hearts, for he deserves to be loved and respected forever! Gerad is a kind and nice senior dog who is initially somewhat reserved but is gradually gaining more confidence and trying to adapt to his new living situation. Since Gerad likely only lived as a yard dog or chained dog, he hasn’t seen much of the world. His new humans should therefore be willing to patiently and empathetically introduce him to everyday life, as he is actually curious about the world out there. For older folks, physical activity requirements are usually not as high, but they enjoy loving attention all the more, even though Gerad is far from being old scrap and is still lively. Being old, male, and large, three points make it not quite easy to find Gerad a loving home quickly. What's needed here are people with a big heart for older dogs who see what a jackpot Gerad is, as he really stands out with the following adjectives: friendly, handsome, lovable, modest, optimistic, grateful, loyal, and with a heart in the right place. Gerad gets along well with his fellow animals and is currently (February 18, 2026) being integrated into a mixed pack. Our charming Gerad longs for a safe home with empathetic and loving people whom he can trust and who can provide him with the security, care, love, and safety he urgently seeks and needs. A soft bed, many cuddles, pleasant walks, age-appropriate exercise, and his own people who will never leave him again, and Gerad can finally enjoy a dignified and carefree life. Who can Gerad be a loyal friend to? Unfortunately, Gerad has a short tail. If interested parties are from Switzerland, an X-ray must be taken to determine whether he was born that way or if his tail was docked. Gerad had a hernia which was operated on during his neutering. Gerad is ready to travel.

About Gerad-2

What life with Gerad-2 looks like

Gerad-2 is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gerad-2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gerad-2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gerad-2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gerad-2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gerad-2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gerad-2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gerad-2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
