Guill

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

History/Description For several months, a female dog with her puppies wandered around near our animal shelter. In November 2011, our caregivers managed to secure the mother dog, Lady, after which her two approximately four-month-old sons, Enric and Guill, followed. As puppies, the brothers were very anxious, and especially Guill could hardly overcome his shyness to this day. He is always on edge at the animal shelter whenever volunteers are present, observing them closely and growling if someone gets too close – not out of aggression, but out of insecurity. He is a peaceful dog who simply wants to be left alone. While his brother Enric has become somewhat braver and now observes people with interest, Guill consistently keeps his distance. Enric sometimes dares to take a piece of cheese from someone’s hand – but Guill only eats when all people are far enough away. At first, walks were a great challenge for both brothers. At the beginning, their caregiver Salva accompanied them on outings to provide them with security. Over time, they got used to the world outside the shelter and began to enjoy their walks. Interestingly, Guill now walks more relaxedly than Enric. However, they only go for walks when there is as little commotion as possible, as they quickly become unsettled by too many people or other dogs. Despite his insecurity, Guill does not need a muzzle at the vet – he may threaten, but he never bites. Enric handles car rides more relaxedly, while Guill does not like them as much. Despite their differences, the brothers often seek each other’s company. In recent years, Guill has made small but significant progress. During their stay in December, Janina made a special observation: when she pretended not to notice him, he came closer very cautiously and nudged her. As she only sees him once a year for one to two weeks, this behavior suggests that he could still open up further with daily, calm contact in a home. Guill is now visibly older, and we wish so much that he could finally find his own home – a quiet place where he can feel safe. Even though he will likely never be comfortable with a lot of closeness or commotion, he should be given the chance to build trust at his own pace. For Guill, we are looking for people with experience in handling very shy dogs – people who know what they are getting into and accept him as he is. Unlike Enric, Guill cannot be lured with cheese, but with patience and empathy, he could make small progress. Do you have a quiet home for Guill? Then please get in touch with us!

About Guill

What life with Guill looks like

Guill is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Pur e.V. in Kettershausen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Guill, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Guill?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Pur e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Guill on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Guill if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Pur e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Guill already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Guill isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Pur e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Guill and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
