Huima

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

3/12/2026 playful Huima is looking for a home where there would be a young cat companion. Huima is a friendly young gentleman who loves play and cuddles. Kisu came to foster home in November along with another cat. Huima is younger than the other, and the older cat's energy is not sufficient to keep up with the lively Huima, which is why the pair is now looking for their own homes. Huima enjoys and feels safe in the company of his cat companion, and is now looking for a home where there would be another young and playful cat as a companion. Huima is social and gladly greets familiar people. The cat is still a bit cautious around strangers, but is becoming more confident all the time. Huima loves to climb to the highest level of the climbing tree or on the armchair, and also enjoys being held from time to time. Huima comes to ask for pets and sometimes even purrs towards the ceiling with his paws. Although Huima has become very confident in foster home very quickly, he still startles easily at strange or loud noises and sudden movements. In foster home, Huima has also become more and more comfortable with the two-year-old dog, so he could also fit into a family with a dog. Huima is not picky about toys, and great entertainment are various strings, all kinds of feather toys, and squeaky balls. The absolute favorite is still the ball, which Huima rolls patiently until it is empty, and then even checks a couple of times to make sure nothing is left on the bottom of the ball. Typically for a young cat, Huima needs a lot of play, but can also relax after playing. Gradually, Huima has started to talk more and more, but mainly when it's boring or when it's time for food. So far, almost all food offered in foster home has tasted good, and the stomach hasn't been upset by anything. Huima is really fond of treats, and using them has made it easy to train new things and gain the cat's trust. Huima is really nice and not aggressive at all, although during play he may accidentally flick his paw. Huima is really easy to handle, and small procedures such as cleaning the ears go smoothly. He goes to the litter box politely, although a bit reluctantly. After being spayed, Huima has been completely clean inside. Note: Huima comes from a population where lungworms (Capillaria aerophila) have been detected. Lungworms manifest as coughing and other respiratory symptoms. Infected cats may also be asymptomatic. The worms can cause permanent damage to the lungs, so symptoms may return or appear later, even if the cat has been treated and the lungworms have been eliminated. You can read more about this via this link. Additionally, ear mites, food allergies, and atopy, conjunctivitis, as well as structural, orthopedic problems have been detected in the population. Many cats in the population have also experienced anesthetic complications (pulmonary edema). This should always be mentioned to the veterinarian treating the cat, so that the increased risk can be taken into account. All cats in the population have been properly cared for in foster home.

12.3.2026 Leikkisä Huima etsii kotia, jossa olisi seurana nuori kissakaveri. Huima on leikkejä ja rapsutuksia rakastava suloinen nuori herra. Kisu tuli sijaiskotiin marraskuussa toisen kissan kanssa. Huima on kaksikosta nuorempi, eikä vanhemman kissan energiat oikein riitä viihdyttämään vauhdikasta kisua, jonka takia kaksikko etsii omia koteja. Huima on todella kiltti eikä lainkaan aggressiivinen, vaikka leikin lomassa saattaa vahingossa hieman huitaista tassulla. Huima on todella helppo käsitellä, ja pienet toimenpiteet kuten korvien putsaaminen sujuvat hyvin. Kantokoppaan hän menee kiltisti, joskin hieman vastahakoisesti. Kastraation jälkeen Huima on ollut täysin sisäsiisti. Huom! Huima on lähtöisin populaatiosta, jossa on todettu keuhkomatoa (Capillaria aerophila). Kaikki populaation kissat on hoidettu sijaiskodissa asianmukaisesti.

About Huima

What life with Huima looks like

Huima is a small young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Rekku Rescue ry in Helsinki.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇫🇮Adopting from Finland

Finnish shelters require a home visit and an adoption contract. Animals are vetted; the EU pet passport covers cross-border travel within the bloc.

Frequently asked

Adopting Huima, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Huima?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rekku Rescue ry handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Huima on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Huima if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rekku Rescue ry will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Huima already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Huima isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rekku Rescue ry early rather than rehoming privately; they know Huima and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FI). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
