Lote

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Lote just celebrated his tenth birthday (as of 01/25), he has leishmaniasis and is also an American Staffordshire. Lote is thus a listless dog and is declared dangerous in most countries of the world without giving him a chance to show his true character. Among our partners at "El Bueno Amigo," there is hardly a nicer dog than Lote. Whenever he spots a free hand, the lovable muscle package is immediately there to collect cuddles. Lote distributes the wettest and most enthusiastic kisses in the animal shelter and does everything to have body contact with his favorite people. Lote is a large lap dog—and he gets along with all his four-legged roommates. If one reads Lotte’s description, one might think that our cuddly backside has never had bad experiences with people or other dogs— but one only has to look at him to be quickly corrected. Lote had his ears and tail cut, he is missing a toe, and he is covered in scars. Animal welfare workers know these marks—Lote served as a "bait dog," he was thus the "igniter" for fighting dogs that were forced to viciously attack him for training purposes. Most often, dogs used for this are those that do not show aggression themselves. They are unsuitable for the ring, and one does not risk injuring the champions. Hardly a dog that endures such a fate lives to be ten years old … but here is Lote, with all his joy in life, with his golden heart, with his unbelievable ability to trust and love unconditionally again, and with the fact that his chances of finding a loving family that wants to give him a happy life are nil. If you live in Germany, you can’t promise Lote a spot on your couch, but you can share him—social media has already made many miracles possible. Maybe you would also like to take on a sponsorship for Lote or one of his many fellow sufferers? For that, you can contact any animal welfare association, since the pandemic has made every cent necessary to keep the work going. And please, speak up for our worrywarts. Not Lote is the danger in this world, and he deserves a happy ending so much!

DE·Show original

About Lote

What life with Lote looks like

Lote is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lote, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lote?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lote on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lote if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lote already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lote isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lote and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
