Adopt Lotto

Border Collie · Male · Young · 2 years

Lotto had already made bad experiences in his young years and experienced both neglect and lack of care from his owner. He was eventually saved by an engaged person who took care of him lovingly and helped him rehabilitate. Afterwards, she asked Melampo for help so that he might hopefully find a permanent home. Upon his arrival at the animal shelter, it was noted that his pupils looked different. A veterinary ophthalmologist examination revealed microphthalmia as well as a mild divergent strabismus (cross-eyed). However, his retinas are unremarkable, and Lotto has normal vision in both eyes. He was also tested negative for Mediterranean diseases. Lotto is a beautiful, healthy dog with a good character. With his striking markings, he is a true eye-catcher. He is active and playful, enjoys mental stimulation, and looks forward to shared activities with his people. He shows great affection towards the helpers, is attentive and obedient, and appreciates any form of affection. With other dogs, Lotto is exceptionally social. At the animal shelter, he goes along problemlessly in larger groups with male and female dogs in the run and shows himself friendly and compatible. In everyday life, Lotto already brings good prerequisites: He walks well on a leash and rides quietly in the car. On one of the pictures, you can see Lotto on the day of his arrival – what a development! We hope very much that luck will continue to be on his side and that he will make the six and find his perfect home. Lotto is looking for people who will give him the attention, security, and affection that he has missed for so long. He is an active companion who wants to be kept busy according to his nature. With patient acclimatization and a bit of time, he will surely turn out to be a great companion.

About Lotto

What life with Lotto looks like

Lotto is a young adult border collie dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Lotto, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Lotto?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Lotto on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Lotto if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Lotto already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Lotto isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Lotto and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
