Adopt Maggie

Cockapoo · Female · Adult · 7 years

26-05-26 Maggie is a sweet Cockapoo who has returned to us from a home following an incident involving a smaller dog in the household. We do not know exactly what happened, but during the night while out in the garden, Maggie became frightened and was involved in a fight after the other dog barked. Maggie is a very shy and sensitive girl who is wary of strangers, although she does allow handling. She is trying very hard to be brave and is beginning to show small signs of progress, even getting close to taking treats from our hands, though she is not quite confident enough just yet. Maggie is not yet confident enough to be an only dog, so we feel she would settle best in a home with one calm and confident resident dog of a similar size or larger, who can help her feel safe and reassured as she adjusts. As Maggie has previously lived in a home, she will be familiar with the sights and sounds of a home environment. However, she may still need some support with house training as she settles into a new routine. Maggie can already walk on a lead, so she would enjoy one or two walks around the local area with the resident dog when she is settled in. Maggie is particularly worried by men and did initially bark at the male resident in her previous home. With time, patience, and gentle handling, she slowly began to come around. Unfortunately, there was also an incident where Maggie became tangled in her harness and, in a panic, bit the hand of the male owner who was trying to help free her. Because of this, Maggie will need a calm adult-only home with patient and understanding adopters who have experience or understanding of the challenges that can come with rehoming ex-breeding dogs. Since Maggie has been with us, she has shown that when she feels stressed or overwhelmed, she may try to find a way to escape by climbing. Because of this, she will need a very secure garden with boundaries of at least 6ft to help keep her safe and prevent any potential escape attempts. Once Maggie knows and trusts someone, she is a very sweet and happy girl. In the right calm and understanding home, with patient and dog-savvy owners who are willing to let her settle at her own pace, we are confident she will continue to make wonderful progress and slowly come out of her shell. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Maggie

What life with Maggie looks like

Maggie is a small adult cockapoo dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maggie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maggie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maggie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maggie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maggie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maggie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maggie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
