Mika

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Kitten · 10 months

This young tomcat has a rather shy, sensitive character and needs some time to build trust. Once he settles in, he quickly shows his great love for food and established routines—especially meal times are a real highlight for him. He appreciates quiet environments and a private retreat very much. Loud households as well as contact with aggressive cats or dogs overwhelm him, so he searches for a relaxed home. He gets along well with friendly, quiet animals. Older children are also possible, provided they are considerate and handle him under supervision. As a pure indoor cat, he needs a safe environment: windows and doors should always be closed or secured, and a balcony must be secured (netted). His story is just as moving as it is special: In the middle of the night, he suddenly appeared under the house of our animal rescuer Zoey and meowed desperately for hours for help. Eventually, he was secured and brought to safety—a moment that forever changed his life. Available at the cost price of 180 Euros (including transport box) Look-animal welfare association Deutschland e.V.

About Mika

What life with Mika looks like

Mika is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. in Hamburg.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Look-Tierschutzverein Deutschland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
