Adopt Nelson

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 8 years

Kraftpaket is seeking a leadership role. Our Nelson was taken from another animal shelter, as he had already bitten there and was deemed unadoptable. Now for the bad news. Let's move on to the good: Nelson was allowed to immediately start training with us and mastered various situations. Whether in the morning team meeting in close quarters with many people, on the yard with other dogs, during a bike workout, or during a relaxing meditation, Nelson was allowed to be everywhere and participate in everything. At first, the results were partly disappointing: He didn't want to have anything to do with many people at once, cycling triggered addictive behavior, and he couldn't really allow for relaxation. Only dogs were completely okay for him. Now, we can work on some things, and so Nelson would very much like to form bonds with us humans, bike rides are now quite comfortable, dogs are still okay, but he needs to further develop his skills in relaxation. It should be noted that Nelson is neither hyper nor excited! He only shows a certain tension and restlessness, which can be relieved! We would be happy to discuss this with you in person during a meet-and-greet. For Nelson, we urgently seek a new home with dog-experienced people who can give him clear guidance; preferably with a confident "only dog," as he shows compatibility with both large and small dogs and, for his breed, is rather atypical in his own confidence! We envision Nelson as a perfect everyday companion who likes to join his human in all areas but can also spend a few hours alone. For a representative of his breed, he is the absolute dream dog for all lovers. Did you ever want to win the lottery? Then contact us directly and send us your phone number so you can meet your very own personal lottery win in the form of a dog.

About Nelson

What life with Nelson looks like

Nelson is a large adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Nelson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Nelson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Nelson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Nelson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Nelson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Nelson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierhelfer Ingelheim e. V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Nelson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
