Adopt Riley

Cocker Spaniel · Male · Adult · 4 years

Affectionate, friendly and full of character, Riley loves nothing more than spending time with his human pals. His favourite spot is happily curled up on your lap for fusses. He greets people with excitement and enthusiasm and loves having visitors over to the home, making him the perfect sociable companion. Riley is always ready for his next adventure, whether that’s exploring woodland trails, sniffing his way around green spaces, splashing through water or heading to the beach. He’s a super clever lad and would thrive with a family who can keep his clever spaniel brain busy with training, games and fun puzzle toys. He already knows a range of cues including sit, wait and recall, making him a bright and rewarding companion to continue training with. For someone looking for a fun loving, affectionate, adventurous best friend who's ready to live life to the fullest, Riley could be the perfect match. Please note: If you already have an open adoption application and are interested in knowing if Riley is a match, please let us know you are interested in him by emailing us on . Appointment slots are available everyday from 11. Riley is a 3-year-old English Cocker Spaniel with a huge heart and an infectious zest for life. This handsome boy is looking for a home in a quieter residential area where he can enjoy his daily walks without the stress of busy roads, which he finds overwhelming. A home with a secure garden is essential, giving him space for plenty of off-lead fun and easy access for toileting, and he would benefit from having a calm, quiet space in the home to enjoy his food in peace. Riley would love adopters who are around for most of the day or who can gradually build up his confidence with being left alone. He could happily live with secondary school-aged children and may also enjoy sharing his home with another friendly dog, as he loves making canine friends!

About Riley

What life with Riley looks like

Riley is a extra-large adult cocker spaniel dog waiting at Dogs Trust Shoreham in Shoreham by Sea.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Riley, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Riley?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Shoreham handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Riley on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Riley if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Shoreham will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Riley already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Riley isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Shoreham early rather than rehoming privately; they know Riley and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
