Sooty

Mixed Breed Cat · Female · Kitten · 2 months

Hiya, my name is Sooty and I am approximately 2 months old. My siblings and I were born in a garden as our mummy was homeless. She has done a fantastic job to keep us all safe and fed so now we need to find homes for ourselves. We have had very little human contact through the important socialising weeks of our young lives so we are currently very scared of people, but don't worry, we are learning that you guys are OK and that you want to help us! We have started accepting hand feeding, gentle strokes and we love to play but it is going to take time, patience and understanding for a while yet until we become more confident. We would really benefit with going in pairs or with another friendly cat so we can learn that the world isn't a scary place and have company whilst doing so. Its best that we go to homes without children for the time being as we are so easily spooked. Once we are old enough we need to be neutered/spayed so this sort of accident doesn't happen again! If you would like some more information about myself or my brothers and sisters then please get in touch! About Sooty

What life with Sooty looks like

Sooty is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat cat waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Sooty, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Sooty?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Sooty on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Sooty if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Sooty already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Sooty isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Sooty and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
