VITO

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 6 years

VITO is 6 years old, he came to us from an intervention. Our inspectors took him in a serious condition. He had numerous wounds on his paws that were not treated for a long time. He is a beautiful German Shepherd. He has a lot of energy, so he would be best suited for a home that can provide him with a lot of activity. He is a dog who looks to his human. When he sees someone he knows through the bars, he barks happily at their sight. He is a very intelligent dog, he learns quickly. He has a strong character, so he needs a decisive and consistent person. If properly guided, he will be a loyal and loving companion for many years. Initially, he did not like visits to the veterinarian due to a lot of pain, but over time he learned to accept this not very pleasant time. He gets impatient quickly, but this does not cause major inconveniences in his handling. He accepts a muzzle, but on a leash he still pulls. We would not recommend a home with children, because VITO is a strong dog, not fully aware of his size and abilities. Best suited for a home with a garden. He is not really accepting of other dogs. VITO is longing for a human, he misses him and needs him. Cared for, he will be a wonderful four-legged friend who will become a companion for many great adventures, which we hope are waiting for him.

Vito ma 6 lat, trafił do nas z interwencji. Nasi inspektorzy odebrali go w ciężkim stanie. Miał liczne rany na łapach, które przez długi czas nie były leczone. To przepiękny owczarek niemiecki. Ma ogromne zasoby energii, więc najlepiej gdyby trafił do domu, w którym zapewni się mu dużą ilość aktywności. To pies wpatrzony w swojego człowieka. Najlepiej, gdyby trafił do domu z ogrodem.

About VITO

What life with VITO looks like

VITO is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Schronisko Kraków in Kraków.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Previous injuries to paws, needs high activity levels, requires consistent handling

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting VITO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about VITO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Kraków handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw VITO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt VITO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Kraków will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is VITO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if VITO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Kraków early rather than rehoming privately; they know VITO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
