Adopt Ziesel

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Female · Senior · 9 years

Hi, I'm Ziesel. A cheerful 10-year-old Staffordshire terrier, looking for a quiet and loving home where I can be myself. I ended up at DOA because my previous owner unfortunately could no longer take proper care of me. When I arrived, I had a lot of skin issues and itching. I'm now getting special food, and happily, that's all under control! I'm feeling good again and am really enjoying life. The people here think my previous owner wasn't always so loving to me. That's why I can sometimes be startled by sudden movements, like an arm that suddenly goes up, or by loud noises. Then I often sit down and start to tremble a bit. Luckily, calmness, patience, and a gentle voice help me relax quickly. And once I trust someone, I let them see just how incredibly lively and loving a dog I am. I get the most joy out of being outside with my person. A nice quiet walk, thorough sniffing, and discovering the world at my own pace, that really makes me happy. I'm after all an older lady, so I don't need to be on the go anymore. I don't need other dogs around me, which I actually don't find very exciting. But playing with my boss? That's amazing! Pulling on a tug rope or chasing a ball makes me super happy. And don't forget the cuddles, because I'm also crazy about them. Just being cozy together, that's the most important to me. Are you someone with a quiet home, a warm heart, and understanding for a sensitive older lady? Then I hope I might become your new best friend.

About Ziesel

What life with Ziesel looks like

Ziesel is a senior staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ziesel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ziesel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ziesel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ziesel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ziesel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ziesel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ziesel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
