Lucky’s naam is erg ironisch, want ze is in haar jonge leven bijna nooit gelukkig geweest..... Ze werd ooit geadopteerd vanuit het kamp door een oude vrouw die niet de tijd noch de wil had om voor Lucky te zorgen - om op te passen voor de onderhoud van de kleinkind tijdens bezoeken. Toen Lucky vervolgens te veel last was, gaf ze haar aan een zonder huisvesting persoon, weer zonder middelen om deze jonge meid goed te verzorgen. Doorgegeven, is Lucky een beetje nerveus bij het ontmoeten van nieuwe mensen, maar we zien dat ze zich snel verbint met iemand die voor haar zorgt. Op dit moment woont ze in een gezinshuis met een moeder en dochter, en wordt goed verzorgd. Lucky houdt van het kind van het gezin en ze gaan goed wandelen samen. Helaas weten we nog niet veel over Lucky’s ervaringen met andere honden of hoe ze zich zou gedragen in een stadsumgeving, wat haar bang maakt, wat haar gelukkig maakt - maar we weten dat het volgende huis waar Lucky naartoe gaat, haar eeuwige thuis moet zijn. Daarom zoeken we nu naar een ervaren en geduldig huis om Lucky’s leven opnieuw te starten, haar de puppy-tijd en tienergroei te geven die ze gemist heeft. Lucky is heel slim en leert snel, ze is ook (lekkere) voedselgestuurd, dus training met haar is plezierig en makkelijk. Aangezien ze veelvuldig is doorgegeven, wordt ze gefocust op "haar mens" als het enige constante ding in haar leven, dus wij raden aan dat de toekomstige familie vroeg begint met zelfvertrouwen- en onafhankelijkheidsopvoeding, om geen afwezigheidsangst te ontwikkelen. Aangezien ze momenteel erg goed met een ongeveer 10-jarige kind leeft, kunnen we ons voorstellen dat ze goed zou passen bij een gezin met een rustig, opgeleid kind. Tegelijkertijd moeten de ouders ervaren zijn en zich bewust zijn van de tijd en rust die nodig zijn om een hond in hun gezin op te nemen die vele malen is verlaten en doorgegeven - rustige, stabiele routines, herhalende activiteiten, verzekering van bekende dingen zullen de sleutel zijn voor Lucky om haar leven opnieuw te beginnen. Haar schouderhoogte is 58 cm en we testen haar momenteel op mediterrane ziekten.

Lucky's name is quite ironic, as she has been anything but lucky in her young life..... Once living in the campo with an elderly woman who did not have the time nor will to take care of Lucky - for the supposed purpose of the entertainment of the grandchild during the visits. When Lucky then became too much of a nuisance, she was handed over to a homeless person, again without means to properly take care of this young girl. Then Lucky moved around between 2 foster families, both of which left the country, and now she is in the shelter…. She has been living together with children throughout her life, and would make a lovely addition to a family with children in different ages. She bonds with humans really quickly, and is ready to work, train and play with you. As a young energetic girl, once Lucky gets her turn in the free-running dog park which she loves, she runs like a Rhodesian! She concentrates very quickly, reacts on her name and she is easy to work with especially because she loves snacks! In the shelter we have not yet worked on socialising Lucky with other dogs, as she arrived to the shelter on heat, so that is not a good point of time for canine sessions, but we see that the more dogs she sees and passes by, the less she reacts by barking or getting agitated, so we believe that she is simply lacking positive experiences with other dogs and can potentially live together with 1 or more other dogs, both in the shelter and in ther forever home. We’ll keep testing that. She loves to go on walks with volunteers and is always happy to see humans. She is intially pulling a bit on the leash, but once she has had enough exercise to let our her energy, her leash-walking improves significantly. For Lucky we are looking for a patient home, to restart her life, and even though she is an easy dog in a home environment, then in order to secure that her next home really is her forever home, we do require previous dog experience. Having been passed around countless of times, she does get focused on "her human" as the one constant thing in her life, so we recommend her future family to start early on with confidence and independence training, in order not to develop separation anxiety. As she was recently living with an approximate 10-year old child very nicely, we can imagine she could well join a family with calm, educated children. At the same time, the parents must be experienced, and aware of the time and calmness it will take, to receive a dog into their family that has been abandoned and thrown around many times - slow, steady routines, repeating activities, reassurance from familiar things will be the key for Lucky to start her life fresh. Her shoulder height is 56cm. Lucky is currently positive on Leishmania and receiving medicine, which her forever family would need to still continue until testing negative for Leishmania. Shelter team will always support families while continuing the treatment.
