Cali

Hello, I am Cali, unfortunately, I also lost my people and my home through the terrible flood in the summer. After the water had receded, I mustered the courage to come out of my hiding place and returned home. But there was nothing left as it was... my people were gone and my home was uninhabitable. I kept running around the house and its surroundings, but there was simply no one. For the entire summer, I made it on my own, until my old bones could no longer carry on. Unfortunately, my people did not return. Observant neighbors noticed me and informed the animal shelter. As I am very fearful, they had to catch me with a trap. At first, I did not trust strangers, but I was so hungry that I naturally went into that strange box. Fortunately, because the clock here says I was already at the last minute, as my caregivers say. A few more days alone out there, and I wouldn't have made it. Here, I was first fattened up and introduced to the vet. They did the full program, taking blood, making an X-ray image of my belly (the people call it that), and getting my teeth (the few that are still there) fixed. During the many examinations, it was found that my kidneys are not entirely okay. For this, I now get a "juice" in my food, which I drink without any problems. My new home should also be rural and more of a quiet household. Children should not live there, as I am much too fearful. Ideally, I would have a home with older, experienced cat owners who give me the space I need and have a lot of patience with me. I am also compatible with other cats, as long as they are also very quiet. So come and meet me soon and get to know me. I do not want to have to stay here for the rest of my life and would like to find a nice home again.

About Cali

What life with Cali looks like

Cali is a senior cat waiting at Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. in Remagen.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cali, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cali?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cali on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cali if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cali already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cali isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim u. Tierschutzverein Kreis Ahrweiler e.V. / Tierheim Remagen. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cali and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
