Cuzco

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Our little Cuzco has gone... and we can't believe it... His tired little heart couldn't handle this very hot day that ended in a cataclysmic storm. During a final outing, he collapsed, couldn't get up anymore, and was immediately taken to the veterinarian. After an ultrasound and ECG, the diagnosis came, despite his treatment, his heart was exhausted and his lungs were no longer following. A last treatment was tried, a last chance, a last hope. Under heavy rain and hail, everyone carefully returned to the shelter. Cuzco wanted to go back to his house, his stall, lie down in his bed. He had the courage to take one last medication prescribed by the veterinarian, then we let him rest a bit while we prepared his new prescription, his new pill box for the next day... Suddenly his condition deteriorated, the storm rumbled, the rain fell, we couldn't hear his heart with the stethoscope, feel his warm breath, or feel his pulse... we couldn't. We called the clinic again and went back the other way, and there the verdict fell, his little heart had stopped. He fought to get back into his stall, to fall asleep forever in his bed. That bed and that stall that had welcomed him when he had been abandoned dying. His kind first family noticed he was sick, it wasn't hard to see since he was vomiting blood and was completely wasting away. Cuzco was directly taken to the clinic and hospitalized for more than a month. He was fed through a tube, and one day he recovered and was able to return to the shelter. We quickly realized he had a strong character and didn't really like the care. He tried to bite the veterinarian who was feeding him through the tube. And then Cuzco was able to join the shelter, nothing was easy, certainly like his life before us. My Cuzco, you need to know that we loved you, protected you, and did everything possible to make you as happy as possible. We knew your excessive love for the big girls and you thus shared the life of some louloutes who were lucky enough to find a family, it wasn't your case unfortunately. You left surrounded by love, and we could kiss you without even realizing. It took us courage, you know, to return to the shelter, but everything happened so fast that we still don't realize. Cuzco, my Coco, I love you forever, and I know that our whole courageous team is like me crying for you... You are in our hearts forever my Coco, your family will always be that of the shelter.

About Cuzco

What life with Cuzco looks like

Cuzco is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animaux sans Foyer in Montgeron.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cuzco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cuzco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animaux sans Foyer handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cuzco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cuzco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animaux sans Foyer will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cuzco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cuzco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animaux sans Foyer early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cuzco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
