Adopt Džesika

Female · Adult · 5 years

The owner of the wolf-dog, Jessica, died a few years ago. The dog remained under the care of her mother, but the woman never took her outside - once a day, her son's friends came to walk the dog. Then Jessica's second owner also passed away, and the dog was taken to a shelter... During the first week at our home, Džesika only growled at us, rejecting any attempts to approach. Now, after several months, we have come to understand the dog and know what kind of owners she is looking for. When applying for Jessica as a wolf-dog, and aware that without pedigree papers the law does not consider her as belonging to the breed, we can still say in the description: she is a typical German Shepherd. It is evident that Džesika was trained. She is full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to work (as a working dog), play, cuddle, and fetch balls. Džesika is suitable for active people without small children, for living indoors - she is very well-behaved and clean. Džesika is not suitable as a first dog, but experienced owners who will continue to train and keep the dog occupied will get a real "gold piece". Jessica would love to work in search training and go on long walks, then sleep peacefully near her owner. Before bringing her home, we recommend coming a few times to get to know Jessica. The little dog is smart and affectionate, but discipline must be maintained in daily life. She will not be a friend to every passerby who wants to cuddle - Džesika will protect her own. She does not communicate with other dogs, but if given a command, she can pass by her canine brothers without emotions. Remember - a typical "German", whose training is the owner's job throughout the dog's entire life.

About Džesika

What life with Džesika looks like

Džesika is a adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Frequently asked

Adopting Džesika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Džesika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Džesika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Džesika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Džesika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Džesika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Džesika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
