Adopt Romeo

Unknown · Young · 1 year

Along the road leading from Tukums to Kesterciems to Mērsrags-Kolka section, located in Engure parish, people noticed a dog. One day... Another day... They questioned the locals and even contacted the forest ranger - no one recognized the dog. Only then did people put the dog in a car and took him for a chip check - there wasn't one. This wolf-like, approximately one-year-old beauty ended up in Riga shelter. The dog clearly lived among people and seems to have also traveled by car - he is confident, communicative, and kind. Indeed, not knowing how to walk on a leash and long nails, as a result of walking on soft ground, could indicate a life in a countryside yard somewhere in Engure parish. Unfortunately, Romeo has not been looked for, and now we are looking for a new family for him. Suitable as a friend and companion, because he is sincere, kind, carefree, and a cheerful young man. With a little training, he will be a real golden gem. He won't be suitable for a solitary outdoor dog life, unless as a second dog, because according to his age, Romeo wants to play and seeks human attention. What doesn't like this boy? It seems to him that everything - this world and everything that happens in it - is very pleasant! Unfortunately, there is one "but". The doctors have diagnosed: pancreatic insufficiency. That means that he will have to eat therapeutic food along with pork pancreas (the medication does not really help). So we sometimes buy pancreases from a slaughterhouse + "Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat". What happens if the diet is not followed? The dog loses weight so much that the ribs stick out, although his appetite is great and he is constantly having diarrhea... If you want to help Romeo maintain, we will be grateful for the dry food donation specifically for him - "Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat"!

About Romeo

What life with Romeo looks like

Romeo is a young adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Romeo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Romeo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Romeo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Romeo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Romeo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Romeo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Romeo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
