Hund Karlsson

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 15 years

Karlsson lived with us since March 24, 2013. His previous life was spent in a Romanian shelter. The organization "Dogs from Hell Rosioris," which aims to rescue, especially older and sick animals from this shelter, facilitated Karlsson's transfer to us. During his time in the shelter, Karlsson had fleas and mange, and at times it was unclear if he would survive. Additionally, he suffers from spondylosis and arthritis (his hip joints are quite damaged), but we have this under control with appropriate medications. Karlsson settled in very quickly. At first, he was quite boisterous and would sometimes pinch us to get attention. But soon he had outgrown this, and would only gently nip at our fingers to be petted. Karlsson always played the clown on the leash – he constantly tried to wriggle out of his harness or bite the leash. Fortunately, there is plenty of space on the premises, so walks were not necessary! In April 2019, we had to put Karlsson to sleep. Karlsson was now approximately 14-15 years old. In the last period, Karlsson had trouble coordinating his hind legs. The orthopedist advised against surgery, as Karlsson "has too many construction sites" and multiple operations would be too much for an old dog. He received pain medication, and for a long time, he did quite well. The day before his death, Karlsson suddenly cried out and could no longer move his hind legs. There were no reflexes left, and he could no longer urinate or defecate. We took him to the vet twice, but the pain worsened despite the medication. We could only release Karlsson. "Dear Karlsson, you leave a large void. How will we miss your endearing stubbornness. Your place in the kitchen is so empty. We will never hear your bark when trucks drive by on the premises. You were such a wonderful dog, consistent in everything… You never did what you didn't want to. Always affectionate, loyal, and grateful. It hurts that we had to let you go, but now you have no more pain and can run over the meadows with your friends who have moved on to the Rainbow Land. I firmly believe we will see each other again someday. Until then: Take care, my friend!!! "

About Hund Karlsson

What life with Hund Karlsson looks like

Hund Karlsson is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Karlsson, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Karlsson?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Karlsson on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Karlsson if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Karlsson already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Karlsson isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Karlsson and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
