Luna

German Shepherd · Female · Adult · 7 years

Luna is one of two female dogs that are looking for a new home from their family in Spain. She came to the family at the age of about 3 months and currently lives with three other dogs. Due to the owner's professional workload and the family's growth with the birth of a baby, everyday life has changed. The time available for the needs of all dogs has become more limited, which has led to tensions between some of the dogs. Since the current living situation is no longer optimal for everyone, a home is being sought for Luna where she can get more time, attention, and the stimulation she needs. Luna is a great, very intelligent dog that brings many typical characteristics of a German Shepherd. She especially loves to fetch balls and could do this almost tirelessly. Therefore, it is important that her people make sure to keep this game in a healthy measure and stop it in time. As soon as the ball is removed, Luna can also settle down wonderfully. At home, she lies down relaxed and is satisfied. Luna has always behaved very friendly and lovingly towards children from the family and the newborn baby. Luna loves to drive in the car and loves to splash around in the water. She also enjoys walks. At the beginning, she is often so excited and full of energy that the leash does not work very well. However, with clear guidance and as soon as her initial excitement has subsided somewhat, this will improve. Luna lived with her people in the house, where she felt safer even when they were away. For a while, all four dogs were housed in an outdoor kennel when no one was home. This situation meant a lot of stress for Luna. She showed pronounced guarding behavior and barked almost continuously. When she was finally separated from the other dogs alone in the house, she felt much better and her stress level decreased. For the loyal Luna, we are looking for dog-experienced people who are familiar with the characteristics and needs of a German Shepherd. They should understand her intelligence and her breed-typical protective instinct and be able to steer it in the right direction. Luna needs a friendly, clear and consistent approach as well as people who give her security and orientation.

About Luna

What life with Luna looks like

Luna is an adult german shepherd dog waiting at Melampo in Melampo.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Luna, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Luna?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Melampo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Luna on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Luna if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Melampo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Luna already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Luna isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Melampo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Luna and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
