Meneer Walnoot

Rhodesian Ridgeback · Male · Adult · 4 years

Nice to meet you, my name is Meneer Walnoot. Unfortunately, I ended up at DOA together with a large number of family members. Our previous owner was not able to care for us properly and that has left its mark. Because of that, I still find many things in life a bit exciting. New people, for example! I prefer to look at them from a proper distance first. With a little patience and a delicious treat, however, I thaw out quite quickly. Once the trust is there, I like to be gently petted and I visibly enjoy that attention. Playing, in the form of a ball or a flirt stick, is largely unknown to me. I probably never learned that. With other dogs, however, I know what to do! They feel familiar and I like to play with them. Who knows, maybe I will also discover the pleasure of toys in the future. I am certainly open to that. New spaces also seem exciting to me, but my curiosity often wins. Then I go, apparently unnoticed, to take a look to see what the world has to offer. With calm, understanding and a kind heart, I continue to blossom a little more. Perhaps one day I will get to know you better.

About Meneer Walnoot

What life with Meneer Walnoot looks like

Meneer Walnoot is a large adult rhodesian ridgeback dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Meneer Walnoot, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Meneer Walnoot?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Meneer Walnoot on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Meneer Walnoot if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Meneer Walnoot already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Meneer Walnoot isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Meneer Walnoot and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
