Mvr. Appelboom

Rhodesian Ridgeback · Female · Young · 3 years

Hi, I'm Appelboom. A shy Rhodesian Ridgeback girl, 3 years old. I ended up at DOA because my previous owner was unfortunately unable to take care of me properly. That was quite exciting, because the world can sometimes be a bit too big for me. Inside, I'm a super gentle girl. I might first look at the cat from the tree (or from the apple tree), but don't be mistaken: I'm also very curious. It's exactly this curiosity that has helped me learn a lot since I've been here, and I'm quite proud of that! I still have a few steps to take. Walking outside is still difficult for me and can make me feel uncertain. With patience, calmness and kind guidance, I will definitely learn this at my own pace. What helps me a lot in this is a stable and confident dog next to me. Such an example gives me confidence and shows that the world isn't really that scary. Furthermore, I am a true social sweetheart: people, dogs, cats... it doesn't matter to me. As long as you are kind, I will be too.

About Mvr. Appelboom

What life with Mvr. Appelboom looks like

Mvr. Appelboom is a large young adult rhodesian ridgeback dog waiting at DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam in Amsterdam.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Mvr. Appelboom, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Mvr. Appelboom?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Mvr. Appelboom on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Mvr. Appelboom if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Mvr. Appelboom already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Mvr. Appelboom isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with DOA Dierenasiel Amsterdam early rather than rehoming privately; they know Mvr. Appelboom and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
