Hi... I'm here... I still feel a bit nervous about saying something, so maybe I'll speak a little quietly... I'm staying at DOA for now. I ended up here because my previous owners... well... didn't take good care of me. Not me and not the rest of my family either. I try not to think too much about it, but... sometimes you can still see it a bit in me. I'm actually quite shy. New people... I find them very scary. Then I prefer to hide a bit so they don't see me. They say I need to learn to trust again, but that takes time. A lot of time. A treat sometimes helps, but even that I often don't dare to accept. It's so stressful that my paws start shaking. There are also many things I've never seen or done. Going up or down a stairs...? No, I still don't dare. And the elevator... oh no. I do go in, but as soon as it moves I sink down on my paws. It feels like the ground is falling away under me. Playing with a ball? I don't know that. And loud noises? I get so scared that my whole body stiffens. A TV or radio... for me it's like a thundercloud that makes noise all of a sudden. And an umbrella... what's that again? I've never seen one! And honestly, I hope it doesn't come too close. So I'm still a bit of a project, they say here. But I really am trying my best. I want so much to learn that people are safe. That I don't have to be afraid anymore. That I might have a soft bed one day and someone who has patience with me. Maybe you're someone who lets me get used to things calmly. Someone who doesn't push me, but whispers: "Take your time. You're safe." I hope so... Until then I'll be here, a little shaky, but also a little hopeful.

Hoi… ik ben het… Ik vind het nog een beetje spannend om iets te zeggen, dus misschien praat ik een beetje zachtjes… Ik woon nu even bij DOA. Ik ben hier terechtgekomen omdat mijn vorige baasjes… tja… niet zo goed voor mij zorgden. Voor mij niet en voor de rest van mijn familie ook niet. Ik probeer er niet te veel aan te denken, maar… soms kun je het nog een beetje aan mij zien. Ik ben namelijk best verlegen. Nieuwe mensen… die vind ik heel erg eng. Dan kruip ik het liefst een beetje weg, zodat ze me niet zien. Ze zeggen dat ik weer moet leren vertrouwen, maar dat kost tijd. Heel veel tijd. Een snoepje helpt soms, maar zelfs dat durf ik vaak niet aan te nemen. Het is dan al zo spannend dat mijn pootjes beginnen te trillen. Er zijn ook veel dingen die ik nog nooit heb gezien of gedaan. Een trap op of af…? Nee, dat durf ik nog niet. En de lift… ojee. Ik loop er wel in, maar zodra hij beweegt zak ik door mijn pootjes. Het voelt alsof de grond onder me wegvalt. Spelen met een balletje? Dat ken ik niet. En harde geluiden? Daar schrik ik zo van dat mijn hele lijfje verstijft. Een televisie of radio… dat is voor mij nog een soort donderwolk die zomaar geluid maakt. En een paraplu… wat is dat nou weer? Dat heb ik nog nooit gezien! En eerlijk gezegd hoop ik dat hij niet te dichtbij komt. Ik ben dus nog een beetje een projectje, zeggen ze hier. Maar ik probeer echt mijn best te doen. Ik wil zo graag leren dat mensen veilig zijn. Dat ik niet meer bang hoef te zijn. Dat ik ooit misschien een zacht bed heb en iemand die geduld met me heeft. Misschien ben jij wel iemand die mij rustig laat wennen. Iemand die me niet pusht, maar fluistert: “Neem je tijd maar. Je bent veilig.” Ik hoop het zo… Tot die tijd zit ik hier, een beetje bibberig, maar ook een beetje hoopvol.
