Rojs

Male · Young · 2 years

Roja's life began beautifully: a loving owner, training, even her own social media account... Everything changed when the owner lost his job. At least that's what the neighbors say. The dog became thinner, the owner was addicted to gambling and alcohol, and the dog was even physically abused. People called the police several times to finally get involved, until one day the neighbors' persistence paid off - Roja was brought to the shelter. The doctors quickly realized that the problem was not a disease, but a ball that had been eaten and was already rotting in the stomach. If the dog had not been brought to the shelter and the owner had not gone to the doctor, the tragedy would not have been far... Let's skip all the drama we heard from the owner and neighbors - such should not be the relationship between the owner and the dog, nor between neighbors. As a result of the involvement of the police and the PVD, the former owner was banned from keeping animals for several years! Initially, the neighbors wanted to take Roja into their care (to live elsewhere). However, after getting to know the dog better, we clearly understood: no families with young children - no! And no people without experience in raising serious working dogs - no! Roja is nice, smart and obedient, knows the commands and is very focused on people. He loves to cuddle and play. But he has a tendency to guard resources. We have already started working on this bad habit in the shelter, but it will be a job that needs to be continued in the new home. Roja is only suitable for adoption by people who will work with a dog trainer either during the introduction in the shelter or from day one at home. Our dog trainer's opinion: Roja is a good dog who just needs to be taught, among other things, to work on guarding resources. Therefore, we emphasize again - Roja is a representative of the Rottweiler breed, a working dog, which also needs to be properly employed by the owner!

LV·Show original

. Ātri vien dakteri saprata, ka pie vainas nav slimība, bet gan apēsta bumbiņa, kas kuņģī jau pūva. Ja suns nebūtu nonācis patversmē un pats īpašnieks nebūtu vērsies pie ārsta, traģēdija nebūtu tālu… Izlaidīsim visu to drāmu, ko klausījāmies no saimnieka un kaimiņiem – šādām nav jābūt nedz saimnieka un suņa, nedz kaimiņu savstarpējām attiecībām. Punkts.

About Rojs

What life with Rojs looks like

Rojs is a young adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

The shelter typically completes the animal's vaccinations, microchipping, and pet passport before adoption. Specific fees and process details vary by shelter and country — confirm directly via the contact details in the sidebar.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rojs, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rojs?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rojs on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rojs if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rojs already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rojs isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rojs and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
