Adopt Teddy

Shiba Inu · Male · Adult · 7 years

Kastrierte male Shiba Inu, born 2019 | Height: 40 cm | Weight: 14 kg Children: no | Cats: unknown | Dogs: no vaccinated, microchipped, and available for adoption. This animal can be adopted if there is suitable space after a sufficient period of getting to know it. Shiba Inu male dog “Teddy” was purchased cheaply abroad 6 years ago. He was dropped off at the animal shelter because, according to his owner, he cannot stay alone and has become insecure in dealing with people since moving to another apartment. Allegedly, he also snapped at a 2-month-old baby. His owners had Teddy sedated with psychopharmaceuticals, but this did not lead to the desired result. With the support of veterinary assistance, we have now been able to taper off the medication. (Psychopharmaceuticals should never be the first or only choice to calm a dog. While they can be appropriate as an adjunct therapy in severe cases, they should never be the sole solution.) Currently, Teddy shows no behavior that would not be typical for a Shiba Inu. He has likely received little to no rules in his daily life and is therefore trying to assert his stubbornness. He seeks people who understand these traits, like them, and have the patience that he does not. Teddy had no contact with other dogs for 6 years and is also a bit of a troublemaker here. A single spot for him would certainly be advantageous. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Teddy

What life with Teddy looks like

Teddy is a adult shiba inu cat waiting at Tierheim Dechanthof in Mistelbach.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Teddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Teddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dechanthof handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Teddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Teddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dechanthof will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Teddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Teddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dechanthof early rather than rehoming privately; they know Teddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
