Adopt Prikols

Male · Adult · 4 years

In a group they were 25 small dogs who lived alone in an unheated house in Jūrmala during winter, lying in their own feces and other mess they had created themselves, damaging furniture. They seemed to have been fed by someone, like piglets, scattered on the ground. One day, the Jūrmala municipal police discovered this horrifying place and all the puppies were taken to a shelter. As is usual in such places where animals reproduce uncontrollably among themselves, they are not socialized, taken for walks, or properly cared for - most of the dogs were completely antisocial. The fluffy handsome boy Prikols, whose age we estimate at four years, was not without reason given this name - he is full of jokes both literally and figuratively. The puppy is quite self-confident, but the lack of socialization is evident: he is curious and interested in everything new, while also not hiding his fears. In our opinion, it will be difficult to live with this dog without attending dog school. For example, he jumps onto all possible surfaces like a mountain goat. Sofas and curtains are obvious places. Prikols will jump onto the dining table and even higher without the slightest effort. Remember - we mentioned self-confidence as the first characteristic for a reason, which must be added with stubbornness... And now imagine Prikols in the middle of your dining table with a defiant and shameless grin in his eyes looking at the owner, saying: "Well, what are you going to say now? What are you going to do?" Therefore, we recommend him for adoption only to patient and experienced dog-training people who are ready, armed with a smile, to train and raise Prikols. He can also live in an apartment in the city center, but without very young children around daily.

About Prikols

What life with Prikols looks like

Prikols is a adult dog waiting at Labās Mājas in Riga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇻Adopting from Latvia

Frequently asked

Adopting Prikols, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Prikols?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Labās Mājas handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Prikols on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Prikols if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Labās Mājas will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Prikols already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Prikols isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Labās Mājas early rather than rehoming privately; they know Prikols and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LV). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
