Stepashka (Степашка)

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Stepashka.... Again about spinal injuries, it happened that we have many of them and they really need help.... Stepashka, the most amusing, the most difficult, but he doesn't know it, he just considers himself the center of the universe. Stepashka's life was broken at two months old, he hadn't even learned to walk properly, and he had to crawl. It was all bad, the urine came out into the abdominal cavity from the impact, a complex operation, then everything as with everyone else, worms, rescue and another trial, paralyzed hind legs, they just couldn't keep up with the jumping tail and fell into all the holes, broken joint, cast, and then even a problem with the jaw, lost weight, became weak, we were terrified, fed him milk mixture and hoped for a miracle again, Stepashka recovered. And Stepashka is a chatterbox, always nearby, everything interests him and he talks, jumps on the tail and talks, talks, talks.... From a small puppy, Stepashka grew into a big dog, of course it's hard to take care of him, hard, once I wanted to wash the tail in the bathtub, I wanted to pull out 25 kg and my back seized, I leaned on the sink - the sink cracked ... I almost cried ... And he licks and sings songs ... Sometimes I ask myself - what would have happened to him if I hadn't taken him ... Could he have survived ... Many people do not understand at all why "to continue the suffering" of the disabled, just people with disabilities live, and animals somehow suffer according to their logic. Unlike a person, an animal with disabilities does not feel like a disabled, he has no psychological problems, the animal adapts to live without a leg, without two legs, without all legs, adapts to crawl, live by touch ... And all he needs is a loving person nearby! Probably you need to have a special character, huge love and respect for another life, to take a special animal. In our society there are still very few people capable of this. I really want us to change this. So that people do not pass by other people's pain, by the look that asks for mercy. An animal with disabilities is not a sentence !!! After all, the right to happiness belongs to everyone! HUMANITY IS NOT ONLY SYMPATHY, IT IS ACTIVELY PARTICIPATING IN THE FATE OF THOSE WHO ARE TO BE COMPASSIONATE ... ON THE PHOTO the story of Stepashka from puppyhood.

About Stepashka (Степашка)

What life with Stepashka (Степашка) looks like

Stepashka (Степашка) is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Stepashka (Степашка), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Stepashka (Степашка)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Stepashka (Степашка) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Stepashka (Степашка) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Stepashka (Степашка) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Stepashka (Степашка) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Stepashka (Степашка) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
