Dobby

Podenco · Male

Dobby's heart breaks a little when you look at him. A little more. Because no matter how many times you see abandonment up close, you never get used to it. Dobby is another living example of the cruelty of some humans. Dobby is a hunting discard. He's not good for hunting or he just didn't respond to his "owner" when they wanted to pick him up after a day in the field, and he stayed at the hunting preserve. There he survived, fending for himself first, and accepting food from afar, quickly, with great fear, later. That's how more than a year has passed, during which he didn't let anyone catch him. A year in which he deteriorated. But finally he was caught and Dobby is now safe at the Shelter. His entire body shows his abandonment. Now they are taking care of his wounds and he is receiving treatment for his illnesses. One of the effects of so much abandonment and miserable life has been that he lost his sight. A blind podenco. But, after so long running away terrified from people, Dobby surprised us because, as a smart podenco, he adapted well to life at the shelter. He's not scared. When he walks, he wags his tail and is curious, using his wonderful sense of smell and hearing. He's learning everything. That fear of humans has disappeared. He only knew mistreatment and when treated kindly with gentleness and affection, his character emerged. He's still timid if we approach without waiting for him, but after that first moment he shows himself confident and calm. Although at the Shelter he has to be alone in a kennel, we know he gets along well with other dogs.

ES·Show original

About Dobby

What life with Dobby looks like

Dobby is a adult podenco dog waiting at Protectora Malaga in Málaga.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Dobby, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Dobby?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Protectora Malaga handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Dobby on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Dobby if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Protectora Malaga will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Dobby already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Dobby isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Protectora Malaga early rather than rehoming privately; they know Dobby and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
