Adopt Il cane dominante non esiste

Mixed Breed · Female

The dominant dog is the one that triggers the instinctive, ignorant desire to submit it. When meeting dogs on walks or in off-leash areas or at a friend's house, it is very common to hear certain behaviors judged as "normal" because they are carried out by a dog considered and evaluated as "dominant": this happens with the dog (maybe even a female) that mounts another dog or a human's leg; or with the dog that keeps everyone away from the bench where the human companion is sitting; it happens with the dog that completely ignores pleas not to pull on the leash; or with the dog that never relaxes and constantly watches the surroundings. All these situations actually have precise ethological explanations, although they differ from each other, in which dominance is not even involved. Dominance and submissiveness, indeed, are concepts that describe "power relations" between individuals within a social group or a stable relationship: they qualify, that is, the status of a subject and therefore are useful to understand social dynamics, but not to label individual behaviors of the family dog that, in certain situations, simply expresses one of the many typical behaviors of the species. This is also true for aggression, which is not necessarily an expression of dominance: indeed, the motivation to attack (aggression) is influenced by several factors (genetics, experiences, health, socialization, fear, predatory and territorial motivation, etc.) and is part of the individual dog's personality, while dominance is not a trait of personality but an aspect of a (asymmetric) relationship that varies according to the context or the relational situation the dog is maintaining. Therefore, once it is understood that it is not a "dominant dog" that wants to sleep on the bed or that defends food or toys, or even that goes through the door first, it will perhaps be easier for the human to set aside their instinctive, ignorant desire to submit the dog and engage in a less simplified reading of its behaviors. In the human-dog relationship, dominance and submission have always been used to justify coercive methods and punishments as tools for asserting anthropocentric superiority and the human animal's will over the non-human animal: instead, what is really needed in the relationship with one's cohabiting animal is people who are authoritative, expressing a balance between knowledge, empathy and listening to the needs and requirements of their animal companion, rejecting dominance, imposition and authoritarianism.

How do I contact the shelter about Il cane dominante non esiste?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Associazione Onlus Apaca handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. Can I adopt Il cane dominante non esiste if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Associazione Onlus Apaca will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Il cane dominante non esiste already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Il cane dominante non esiste isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Associazione Onlus Apaca early rather than rehoming privately; they know Il cane dominante non esiste and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
