Adopt Maxim

German Shepherd · Male

Maxim ID No.: 1020011 Breed: this breed Age: approx. 10/2022 Sex: male Shoulder height: approx. 65 cm Neutered: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Maxim – a loyal adventurer seeking his anchor Maxim (*approx. 10/2022, approx. 65 cm) is a magnificent German Shepherd mix whose faithful gaze goes straight to the heart. He arrived at our partner shelter, Triple A in Marbella, together with his sister Lolita after their family simply no longer wanted them back. By now, his sister has been rehomed, and Maxim was left behind alone—a situation that visibly affected him. Since then, he’s become more withdrawn, and the noisy, hectic shelter routine is extremely stressful for this sensitive male dog. However, anyone who meets Maxim outside the shelter walls discovers his true, radiant self. On beach outings, he truly blossoms—he revels fully in the wind, the sand, and the freedom. In those moments, you can see just how much joy for life he carries within and how much he loves exploring the world. Maxim is a typical German Shepherd who seeks a close bond with his humans. While walking, he frequently pauses and looks back to check whether his primary caregiver is still with him—he doesn’t want to lose anyone again. Maxim is an intelligent and active companion who needs both mental stimulation and physical exercise. As a strong male dog, he still shows plenty of excited energy on the leash when leaving his kennel, but he quickly calms down once he’s had a chance to move around. He gets along with other dogs based on mutual sympathy, but in his new home, he would also be perfectly happy as an only dog, enjoying undivided attention. A very important note regarding Maxim’s health: he involuntarily loses urine while sleeping. This does not happen during the day. Therefore, we are urgently looking for kind-hearted and understanding people who will accept him exactly as he is. Most importantly right now, Maxim absolutely must be removed from the stressful shelter environment. If Maxim is allowed to sleep indoors at night, this minor issue can be easily managed with a few simple aids: washable male dog diapers for nighttime, waterproof incontinence pads placed under his cozy blanket, or an easy-to-wipe artificial leather bed. Maxim is neutered, vaccinated, and holds an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, he has been tested for Mediterranean diseases and has been dewormed and treated for fleas. About Maxim

What life with Maxim looks like

Maxim is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Maxim, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Maxim?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Maxim on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Maxim if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Maxim already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Maxim isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Maxim and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
