Hund Big Ben

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 13 years

We mourn the loss of Big Ben…. This morning, we had to reluctantly decide to put Big Ben to sleep. We had already reported that he was not doing well and could barely get up. His condition was deteriorating rapidly, and he could no longer go to the water bowl by himself. He could no longer stand to urinate or defecate, and it was no longer a livable condition for him. Walks around the yard or the pasture were now unimaginable. Big Ben was approximately 13 years old… "Dearest Big Ben, one of the truly great ones has moved to Rainbow Land. You were more than a special dog, imposing in your size and presence with a heart of gold. I would have laid my hand on fire that you would never snap. You were absolutely and 100% simply loving, a kind giant, a rock in the storm. You lay there quietly, observing, even when the whole pack was going wild. I still remember the moment we first met. You came in a transport from Bosnia and were only on your way through, your new home was supposed to be in the Ruhr area. But somehow, I knew right away that we would see each other again, and I am convinced that you knew it too. For you did not feel at home in your new home and barked day and night. Therefore, I was not surprised when Gabi Boese called me to ask if you could move to the Animal Life Farm. Of course, my answer was: "JAAAAA!!" We spent seven years together, and now we had to say goodbye! Dearest Big Ben, it hurts very much, but I hope that wherever you are, you are well, and that we will see each other again someday! Until then, make it well, wonderful big boy!

DE·Show original

About Hund Big Ben

What life with Hund Big Ben looks like

Hund Big Ben is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. in Irmenach.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Hund Big Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Hund Big Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Hund Big Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Hund Big Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Hund Big Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Hund Big Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierlebenshof Hunsrück-Mosel e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Hund Big Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
