Kefir

Male · Adult · 6 years

Hi, this is Kefir, for friends Kefcia 🤗 For two years, which is half of my life, I've been in the animal shelter, watching through the bars the changing friends and girlfriends from the opposite cages, seeing how they are confused at first, but after some time someone finally notices them and they go home together. People who visit the animal shelter probably don't notice me, as if someone threw a cloak of invisibility over me. But my volunteers do notice me, they take me for a walk every day and we wander along the paths that are already perfectly known to me. I know every tree and bush in the area. I know where the little stream is and where the biggest and most beautiful puddles form after the rain, in which I like to lie down. I promise that if you make a walk appointment with me, I'll show you all of this! On these walks we do a lot of cool things - the beginning is a bit crazy because I wait with all my needs until I get out of my cage, I try not to mess it up. Then I use all of myself in those short moments of attention during the day. We go to the forest, to the field or to watch the planes take off. I read messages from friends who leave for me along the way, sometimes I find a new scent and roll in it. All of this is for you, so that I smell better! I often go for walks in a larger group, I really like other dogs and spend time in their company. I try to get along with everyone and they probably also like me 😊 I'm a bit afraid of strangers, I don't know what their intentions are towards me, but a few minutes are enough for me to like them. My volunteers say I've made great progress and have already gathered a large group of two-legged friends. I can't even count the four-legged dog friends. I was several times with my aunt in such a big forest, there we met several great friends - they have their homes, so I'm sure I'll find one too. It's just wonderful there, I can finally breathe, at least away from the noise of the shelter and the constant stress. I would like to live there, exactly in such an area - green, quiet and peaceful. I can get there by car and I'm an ideal passenger. But if you don't have a car, I can also ride the bus! I was several times at such dog parties - Adopt a Warsaw Dog. At first, I didn't really like it because I was very scared, but at the last one I gave it my all! We talked to people, met the dogs and looked for someone who would finally give me a chance. Finally, I must mention that I'm a bit biased against veterinarians, I'm very afraid of them and I don't understand why you have to go there. I have to go sometimes because of my dysplasia, but it doesn't interfere with my daily life at all and I can use my four paws without any problems. I hope that eventually someone will remove this cloak of invisibility and see me, a person who already has some experience with dogs. I wouldn't be suitable as the first dog, that's for sure.

Znam w okolicy każde drzewo i krzaczek. To wszystko dla Was, żeby lepiej pachnieć! Chciałbym tam mieszkać, właśnie w takiej okolicy - zielonej, cichej i spokojnej.

About Kefir

What life with Kefir looks like

Kefir is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Schronisko Na Paluchu in Warsaw.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Hip dysplasia, fear of veterinarians

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kefir, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kefir?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Na Paluchu handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kefir on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kefir if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Na Paluchu will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kefir already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kefir isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Na Paluchu early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kefir and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
